Monica is an actress born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a BA in Drama (Magna Cum Laude). She later completed her MFA in Acting at the Actors Studio Drama School in NYC where she studied with Susan Aston, Gene Lasko, Sam Schacht and Doug Moston. She has worked in TV and Theater in Puerto Rico, and has done voice over campaigns in Puerto Rico as well as in NYC. Also a singer, she has trained under the guidance of the recognized professor Bill Riley. She was also part of the original cast of the musical Pantaleón y Las Visitadoras, her first experience as a recording artist for the original cast soundtrack. For this role, she won the 2010 HOLA Award for “Outstanding Performance by a Featured Actor”.
She currently resides in New York City where she has been a company member of the Spanish Repertory Theater for the past 14 years. She is also founding member and was part of the Board of Directors of Boundless Theater Company, where she continues also as Associate Artist. She participated as actor in their NYC production of “Five Kinds of Silence” as Susan.
NYC Credits: “Five Kinds of Silence” (Boundless Theater Company), the successful off Broadway show “La Lupe: My Life, My Destiny” (Puerto Rican Traveling Theater). Wedekind’s “Lulu” (Pandora’s Box) as Countess Geschwitz, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” , and the leading roles in the original one act play “The Rapture of Theresa” (Actors Studio Repertory Season). As company member of Spanish Repertory Theater, she has participated in “Wild in Wichita”, “Pantaleon y Las Visitadoras”, “La Grin”, “The House of Bernarda Alba”, “Blood Wedding”, “San Juan Shakespeare Co.”, “Chronicle of a Foretold Death”, and”The Feast of the Goat”.
